Eastern Region Conference of Church Leaders on the theme "Role of Christians in building new Nepal", 27-30 January 2008, Dharan, Sunsary

Giving continuity to its campaign of developing a nationwide network of Churches in Nepal and encouraging them to be actively involved in the socio-political, developmental issues faced by our society and the nation, the issues of peace, justice and human rights and the issues of social transformation, NCCN, with the cooperation of Dharan Christian society and the Churches in eastern region of Nepal, organized the eastern

region conference of Pastors and Church leaders in Dharan from 27-30 January 2008. To participate in the conference organized with the theme "The Role of Christians in building New Nepal", more than 250 Pastors and key Church leaders, representing all Church denominations and groups acting in eastern Nepal, from 11 districts in the eastern region of Nepal gathered in Dharan. 
 
The main topics and issues discussed in the conference were the role of Christians for building just and equitable society, peace, justice, human rights and the role to be played by the Church and Christian community, the contextual application of the scripture, gospel and culture, importance of unity among the churches, HIV/AIDS and the role of Churches, importance of inter-r

ch of holistic and sustainable development and peaceful settlement of conflicts in Nepal since last many years, gave his valuable time to work as main resource person for this programme.
Similarly, the vice-president of NCCN, Mrs. Bishnu Rai, a senior nurse in Nepal by profession, worked as resource person for the topics on HIV/AIDS and the role to be played by the Churches.
To make the programme more participatory each session was followed by intensive group discussion among the participants.
 
By inspiring from the topics and issues discussed in the conference, the participants formed Eastern Region Christian Council (ERCC) to give continuity to the issues discussed in the conference and work as representative body of Christians in this region.

On 30 January, the final day of the programme, ERCC organized a press meet in the conference hall of Sunsari branch office of the federation of Nepalese journalists to make public the outcome of the conference. The press meet was attended by about 24 media persons acting in eastern region.
